PRACTICE PATHWAY

CLINICAL SUPERVISION

Reflective. Practical. Supportive.

Supervision is one of those things that can quietly transform your practice or quietly drain it, if it is not the right fit.

I offer supervision because I wanted something different available to counsellors: not supervision as a box to tick, but a genuine space to bring the messy, uncertain, and heavy parts of the work and actually think them through.

If you are carrying cases home in your head, doubting yourself after sessions, or wondering if you are doing enough, you are not alone. These are common parts of therapeutic work, and they are exactly what supervision is for.

I work with counsellors at every stage: students finding their feet, provisionally registered practitioners building confidence, and experienced clinicians who want a thoughtful space to reflect.

My approach is warm and grounded, but not passive. I will hold space for whatever you bring, and I will ask the question you might be avoiding when that is what the work calls for. I am not here to tell you what to do. I am here to help you think more clearly, practise more safely, and trust yourself more fully in the room.

What We Work On Together

Every session is shaped around where you are right now: your clients, your questions, and what is sitting with you. Some of what we commonly explore includes:

  • Client presentations, case discussion, and therapeutic formulation

  • Ethical decision-making and professional responsibility

  • Risk, safety, and duty of care

  • Boundaries and self-awareness in the therapeutic relationship

  • Countertransference: what is yours, what is theirs, and what to do with it

  • Documentation and clinical record-keeping

  • Confidence and professional identity

  • Vicarious trauma, burnout, and sustainable self-care

  • Working with grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, and life transitions

  • The realities of private practice that training often does not prepare you for

Supervision with me is not about being assessed or told you got it wrong. It is a space to slow down, think out loud, and leave clearer than when you arrived.

Who This Is For

Practice Pathway supervision may be suitable for:

  • Student counsellors completing placement or supervision hours

  • Newly qualified counsellors building confidence in practice

  • Provisionally registered counsellors and psychotherapists

  • Registered practitioners seeking ongoing reflective practice

  • Counsellors in private practice

  • Counsellors working in community, NDIS, school, or organisational settings

  • Allied health and community service professionals seeking reflective support

My Approach to Supervision

My supervision is grounded in mindfulness, reflective practice, and a genuine commitment to ethical care.

Mindfulness is not a technique I pull out. It is how I try to live, and it shapes how I show up with you: present, curious, unhurried, and willing to sit with uncertainty before rushing to fix or advise. That is often where the real thinking happens.

It also means being direct. I will name what I am noticing. I will ask careful questions. I will be honest with you, even when honesty is uncomfortable, because good supervision should support your growth, not simply reassure you.

You will be met with warmth. And you will also be gently challenged.

A Note on Fit

Geelong’s counselling and allied health community is a small one. If you are a referral partner, a colleague I work alongside, or someone with an existing professional connection to me, we will talk through that openly before starting. The aim is to make sure the supervisory relationship is clear, ethical, and appropriate for both of us.

Individual Supervision

One-on-one supervision gives us the space to go deeper into your client work, clinical thinking, doubts, and professional growth.

There is no fixed agenda you have to fit. Bring what is alive for you that week. Bring the case that stayed with you. Bring the question you have not felt safe to ask anywhere else.

Sessions are 50 minutes and can be held fortnightly or monthly, depending on your registration requirements, stage of practice, and what works for you. Supervision is available online via telehealth or in person at Bo Tree Counselling in Highton, Geelong.

Fees

Individual Clinical Supervision
$180 per 50-minute session

Payment is due at the time of each session.

Supervision fees may be tax deductible as a professional development expense, depending on your circumstances. Please seek independent tax advice.

Group Supervision

Group supervision is available by enquiry and may be offered as a regular group depending on interest. It provides a collegial and reflective space to explore clinical themes, discuss case material, learn from other practitioners, and build professional connection. Expressions of interest are welcome.

Private Practice Mentoring

For counsellors who are building, considering, or refining a private practice, optional mentoring is available alongside supervision. This can include discussion around:

  • Private practice foundations and structure

  • Referral pathways and visibility

  • Setting fees and service structure

  • Policies, processes, and client communication

  • Professional boundaries in private practice

  • Sustainable practice development

  • Building confidence as both a practitioner and a business owner

This support is optional and can be discussed during your enquiry or as part of your supervision goals.

About Dee

I am Dee Kumbukage: counsellor, clinical supervisor, and director of Bo Tree Counselling in Highton, Geelong.

I understand the emotional weight of this work: the self-doubt, the cases that stay with you, and the quiet fear that you are not doing enough, even when you are. I am not speaking theoretically. I understand these experiences from the inside of practice, and that shapes how I approach supervision.

Before counselling, I spent years as an accountant and business professional. So when supervision touches the practical side of practice (fees, structure, policies, and building something sustainable), I know that territory too, from having built a practice myself.

My meditation practice shapes how I show up in the supervision room: with stillness, presence, and genuine curiosity.
